He's turning 2!!!

Nikola will be turning two on November 25th, 2008. I can't believe how fast two years have flown by! He will be having two birthday parties. The first will be at his grandma's over Thanksgiving break on November 29th. The theme is (SURPRISE!) Blues Clues Carnival! His second party will be December 6th at Hershey's Chocolate World. We discovered on our Halloween trip to Hershey that he loves anyone dressed up as a giant chocolate bar so a Hershey Kiss will be attending as the guest of honor! He loves hershey kisses so I hope he doesn't try to bite the poor person in the costume.

UPDATE!!!! Tonight before bed (without any prompting from us) Nikola pointed to his potty and then tried to take his pants off. We got him undressed and he sat right on the potty and went pee! His diaper was completly dry! He may be potty training himself before too long!

All about Nikola Aug 2008

Favorite Show: Blue's Clues
Favorite Fruit: Strawberry
Favorite Drink: Juice
Favorite Candy: Smarties
Favorite Activity: Anything outside!
Favorite Food: Meatloaf
Favorite Song: Elephant Song (on youtube)

Cute things he does:
1.) He acts out all the blues clues songs
2.) When he really likes something he is eating he shakes his head yes while he chews, even if no one is looking.
3.)When you do something he appreciates, sometime he rewards you with a hug and kiss.
4.) He deliberately blinks his eyes and then gives a squinty-eyed grin. You really have to see it to understand.
5.) He makes play-doh an clay creations and tries to scare you with it.
6.) He is deathly afraid of bugs or anything that resembles a bug.
7.) If he has a dinosaur, dragon, or even a basketball on his shirt he makes it roar at you and you have to pretend to be scared.
8.)He loves to be told he is cute.
9.) I will say sing Nikola, and he will sing all the way home in the sweetest voice.
10.) He sometimes goes and lays down with the dogs and loves on them. I am happy to say they rarely flinch. Anymore.

He also has discovered cupcakes. And they make him very happy!

Nikola's hospital stay Jan 2007

We went to WV for Nikola's 1st Christmas and shortly after Nikola was diagnosed with RSV. Since becoming a mom I have been terrified twice. The first was when I was in labor and the midwife said that the fetal heart rate was dropping and we needed an emergency c-section. The second was when we took Nik to the d thinking he had a cold and he was admitted. We were there for 5 days filled with endless breathing treatments, respiratory therapists, and a very sad IV. I know it may seem morbid, but we took pictures because we were still in the early parent photodocumenting stage. Also with both families so far away, we were pretty much on our own and I wanted to show everyone what he had to endure. So here is a sad slideshow of his first hospital stay.

Nikola's song

Here are the lyrics to a song that captures the way I feel about Nikola. It is the first song on my playlist if you want to hear it.

your baby blues so full of wonder your curley cues your contagious smile and as i watch you start to grow up all I can do is hold you tight

knowing clouds will rage and storms will race in but you will be safe in my arms rains will pour down waves will crash all around but you will be safe in my arms

story books are full of fairy tales of kings and queens and the bluest skies My heart is torn just in knowing you'll someday see the truth from lies

when the clouds will rage and storms will race in but you will be safe in my arms rains will pour down waves will crash all around but you will be safe in my arms

Castles, they might crumble dreams may not come true but you are never all alone 'cause I will always always love you

when the clouds will rage and storms will race in but you will be safe in my arms rains will pour down waves will crash all around but you will be safe in my arms

Before Nikola

I probably took 50 pregnancy tests before I finally got the positive result that Nikola would be joining our family. I knew that he would be a very special child, but I honestly had no idea how smitten I would be with him. I have this urgency to share all the cute and clever things he does. I am hoping this blog will be a good way for me to get this out of my system and give my poor co-workers' ears a break. I am planning on posting pictures/ stories from the past and the present. I would do the future too, but the time machine still has a few kinks that need to be worked out.
